Core technical advantages (compared to traditional display solutions)

Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLED) significantly outperform traditional LCD and OLED display technologies in terms of color reproduction, lifespan, and power consumption. According to the DSCC 2025 display technology report, QLED's color gamut coverage reaches 115% of the DCI-P3 standard, which is 60% higher than that of LCD (72% DCI-P3), and can accurately reproduce 98% of the visible colors in nature; its peak brightness reaches 2000 nits, which is 2.5 times that of OLED (800 nits), and maintains a contrast ratio of 10000:1 even in strong light conditions, solving the pain points of LCD's reflection and OLED's insufficient brightness. In terms of power consumption, QLED is 35% lower than LCD and 20% lower than OLED, with an annual average power consumption of 85 degrees for a 55-inch QLED TV, which is much lower than that of LCD TVs (130 degrees) and OLED TVs (106 degrees).

Key materials and preparation breakthroughs

The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Semiconductors announced in Q2 2025 a breakthrough in quantum dot material modification: by coating the surface of cadmium-based quantum dots with a silica (SiO₂) nanocage layer, the material stability is increased to 100,000 hours (the time it takes for the brightness to decay to 50% of the initial value), which is 233% longer than that of unmodified quantum dots (30,000 hours), solving the core bottleneck of short lifespan of traditional QLEDs. The related results were published in the Journal of Luminescence. At the same time, a Korean display panel enterprise developed a "solution-phase inkjet printing" preparation process, reducing the pixel pitch of the quantum dot film to 5 μm, which is 3 times that of the traditional evaporation deposition process (15 μm), achieving the large-scale production of Micro QLED, with a yield rate from 65% to 88%, and a unit area manufacturing cost reduced by 40%.

Industry application scenarios implementation

In the consumer electronics field, the global QLED TV shipments exceeded 8 million units in the first half of 2025, accounting for 32% of the high-end TV market (above $5000). A mainstream-sized QLED TV, with its ultra-wide color gamut and high brightness, has become the preferred display solution for professional image production and gaming equipment, with a response time as low as 0.5 ms, 50% shorter than OLED (1 ms). In the automotive display field, QLED's high-temperature stability (-40°C to 85°C normal operation) makes it the core solution for the central display screen and head-up display (HUD) of new energy vehicles. The 12.3-inch QLED automotive display screen of a certain automaker, after 1000 high and low temperature cycles, has a performance attenuation of less than 3%, with a lifespan of up to 8 years, far exceeding LCD automotive displays (5 years). In VR/AR devices, the miniaturization advantage of QLED (with the smallest pixel size down to 2 μm) expands the field of view angle to 120°, while reducing power consumption by 40% and extending the battery life to 6 hours.
